Ulm. A weekend, many faces.
The dive draws your eye. Then you notice everything around it: a face at the waterline, people waiting on the platform, a meeting beside the pool. Stay a little longer. There is plenty to see.
A whole pool, a whole weekend.
From 4 to 6 August 2017, the Jump & Fun Weekend brought trampolines, diving platforms, a human table-football game and a 15-metre Airtrack waterslide to the Donaubad outdoor pool in Ulm. (GSV Hemmingen)
The splashdiving contest used the five- and ten-metre platforms, alongside a programme that gave visitors more than one way to join in. (GSV Hemmingen) That breadth is part of the pleasure of looking through these pictures: the event continues well beyond the edge of the platform.

Before the water takes over.
A platform gives a photograph its bearings. The person in the air changes everything: tucked in or stretched out, seen from the side or almost straight above. Follow a few frames and the same pool becomes a different picture each time.
These images leave room for the setting as well as the movement. You can see where the dive begins, how far the water lies below and how small a person can appear beside a tower.

People, not just performances.
The competition does not account for every good picture. A face just above the water, a conversation at the side, someone turning towards the camera: these are the moments that make a collection feel like a place people actually shared.
The range of generations comes through in one detail from the contemporary GSV report: it highlights a 90-year-old named Martin, who contributed diving demonstrations to the programme. (GSV Hemmingen)
You do not need a podium place to belong in this story. Take your time with the group pictures, too. You might find yourself in the background of somebody else’s favourite moment.

The people who made room for everyone.
The GSV Hemmingen gymnasts joined the weekend and slept in the neighbouring ice arena on a giant air mattress; their account describes swimming, trampolining and a beach party continuing into the night. (GSV Hemmingen)
The same report thanks the Donaubad team, the volunteers and Fredy from TV Burgberg, who organised the trampoline equipment and coordinated helpers; more than 50 volunteers from several clubs worked across the weekend. (GSV Hemmingen)
Those details deserve a place alongside the action. A weekend like this is also a story of equipment carried, space made and people staying until the work is done.

Keep looking.
A photo story is one route through an event, not the last word on it. The gallery holds a much larger selection, including quieter frames and different views of the action.
