Freising. From watching to taking part.
At Splash im Fresch, the national team, a workshop and everyday pool visitors meet. A story about turning fascination into a first step in learning. Süddeutsche Zeitung · Freising · 26.07.2022 ↗
The pool is more than a stage.
In July 2022, Süddeutsche Zeitung reports on Splash im Fresch in Freising. The national team arrives with Oliver Hillebrecht, demonstrates its skills and opens a competition for pool visitors. The event does not stop at watching: a workshop connects the show with guided participation. That connection turns an appearance into a way into the sport. There is work behind the splash.
The report describes Benedikt Dallwitzer helping participants with body position and their subsequent attempts to apply the advice. Hillebrecht points to preparation outside the water, including gymnastics, acrobatics and ballet. The large splash is the visible ending, not the whole sport. Before it come body awareness, practice and the ability to take guidance. Süddeutsche Zeitung · Freising · 26.07.2022 ↗
Not every attempt has to succeed.
Learning from unsuccessful attempts is a central theme of the report. Hillebrecht describes its educational value, while the article also records his wish to see more women involved. For us, that raises an important thought: progress is not a contest to hide every uncertainty. It needs people who are allowed to learn and whose efforts are taken seriously.
