SPLASHDIVING CUP
SUPER DIVE – SPLASHDIVING WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP 2019
A weekend beside the pool.
Jumps, faces and the life in between. These photographs from 27 and 28 July 2019 look beyond the tower to the people meeting around the pool.
Finding your place.
Looking through these photographs, your eye soon moves from the tower to the poolside. People come together, look towards the camera or across the water. A good picture does not always need somebody in mid-air.
Small encounters give this selection its character: a smile across a table, two people sharing a portrait, a group watching together. You may recognise somebody here. You may even find yourself.

The moment in between.
The camera holds onto something that passes almost instantly when you watch it happen. A body beyond the platform, knees drawn up, arms stretched out. These photographs show different shapes and viewpoints without turning separate jumps into an invented sequence.
Some pictures stand out against the bright sky behind the tower. Others catch the movement in front of dark trees. A different camera position changes how we see the sport: sometimes graphic and almost isolated, sometimes firmly within the life of the pool.

Back in the water.
After the flight, the picture changes at once. Where a body was visible a moment earlier, there is now spray. The platforms, the poolside and the other people remain in view. The jump is brief. The pool is the shared space around it.
In one photograph, a head has already reappeared above the water. In others, fine spray still hangs over the pool. The larger image view gives you time to discover these details.

Faces, not entry numbers.
Against a dark backdrop, faces come forward. A smile, a direct gaze, a cap, folded arms. These portraits have a different rhythm from the action photographs and deserve their own space here.
The photographs in the air are all about movement. The portraits give you time to look at a face. Straight on, without a tower or a curtain of spray.

Everything around the action.
The people behind the camera and at the tables are part of this weekend’s photographic record, too. So are the visible signs of the sport: the Jump Chart, the Wall of Fame and the trophies beside the pool.
In front of the Wall of Fame, trophies stand on a table covered in white. Medals are arranged beside them, their ribbons patterned with stars. The awards carry the year 2019. It is a small detail that connects these pictures with the year, even without the camera dates.
