Before the world watches. The team trains.
An August 2004 dpa report catches the first national team in preparation, with coach Florian Spiske and an idea becoming more than a poolside joke. Zeitgenössischer dpa-Bericht · Mitteldeutsche Zeitung · 10.08.2004 ↗
A team takes shape.
Bayreuth, August 2004. Before the first world championship begins, there is training. A contemporary dpa report carried by Mitteldeutsche Zeitung describes a German cannonball national team preparing and practising at Bayreuth’s Kreuzsteinbad. Florian Spiske appears as national coach. It is an early glimpse of people turning a summer-pool idea into a shared sporting ambition. Zeitgenössischer dpa-Bericht · Mitteldeutsche Zeitung · 10.08.2004 ↗
The trail goes back another year.
The report also looks back to the previous year's Pecklaman Cup. That makes it contemporary evidence of a story beginning in 2003, rather than only with the championship headlines of 2004. The early competition and the later world championship are separate chapters in the same development. Zeitgenössischer dpa-Bericht · Mitteldeutsche Zeitung · 10.08.2004 ↗
The people behind the names.
The historical report names organiser Oliver Hillebrecht under his former name, Oliver Schill. Preserving that context helps readers understand an archive. Today these reports connect with the people in our Legends register, without turning one newspaper account into an invented memory or an additional verified result.
